Where to start drifting?

Car acquired, manual transmission driving ability acquired. Now where to start drifting? Public roads are out of the equation, we do not want to impose any kind danger to the public, or damage any public/private property, it’s not worth it. You don’t want to be responsible for any kind of damage other than your own car. The conditions on public roads constantly change, and when drifting, you will mostly focus on driving sideways, and not focus on avoiding a sudden situation, or it just will be too late to out maneuver, end up in a crash.

No, this isn’t a sign permitting you to drift.

A cheap and safe option is to go out to an abandoned or completely isolated open parking lot, preferably during wet conditions, your car drifting will not create any tire skid marks, and it will be easier on your car. Rain will allow you to learn quicker, drifting in the rain seems like everything is in slow motion, and the life of your tires last much longer, giving you that precious seat time. Just beware of private parking lots that completely prohibit these type of activities, as well as be on the look out for cameras. Sometimes there is even a chance to ask the property owner, if there is such chance, please don’t hesitate to do so, as the property owner might even support it.

As simple as that, not only you become a better driver at these type of events, but you also support your local tracks and the motorsports culture as a whole. You become exposed to the community of friends who love the same thing you do, giving you opportunity for new friends, networking, and advice.
